DOS batch file to update ClamWin anti-virus

No more manual AV signature updates.

By V. Subhash

ClamWin is a GUI version of the clamtk anti-virus engine. It is an on-demand AV scanner, not a real-time defender. The update process for the AV signatures can be automated using a DOS batch file. The batch file require a configuration file. Use Notepad to create a file named freshclam.conf with the following content:

DNSDatabaseInfo current.cvd.clamav.net
DatabaseMirror database.clamav.net

Contents of the batch file can be:

cd "C:\Program Files\ClamWin\bin"
"C:\Program Files\ClamAV\freshclam.exe" --stdout --datadir="C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\.clamwin\db" --config-file="[path-of]\freshclam.conf" --log="
[path-of]\freshclam.log"

Thanks to Sysinternals Process Explorer (from Microsoft), I was able to capture the command-line arguments from ClamWin.
