Installing Print2eDoc SDK as a COM+ Application

If you need to run Print2eDoc SDK COM printer component under different identities, you probably need to install it in COM+ Component Services.*

An example of a situation where you need to use Print2eDoc under a different Windows identity is when you need to use the Print2eDoc COM printer in an ASP page.

Typically, an ActiveX COM object created in a ASP page runs under the SYSTEM account. However, the object will not be able to access the Print2eDoc printer, as no printers are installed under the SYSTEM account.

A solution is to install Print2eDoc SDK in Windows COM+ Component Services under a Windows identity (say the Administrator account) that has sufficient permissions to access all installed printers including Print2eDoc..

Perform the following steps to install Print2eDoc SDK as a COM+ application:

Go to Control Panel, select Administrative Tools, and then select Component Services.
Expand Component Services node through Computers and My Computer until you reach COM+ Applications.
Right-click on COM+ Applications and select New » Application on the shortcut menu. This starts the COM+ Application Install Wizard.
On the Welcome page of the wizard, click Next.
On the Install or Create a New Application page, select Create an empty package button.
On the Create Empty Application page, enter say "Print2eDoc SDK COM+" as the name, leave the application type as is (Server application), and click Next.
On the Set Application Identity page, select option This user, specify the credentials of the Administrator account and select Next.
Select Finish to close the wizard and go back to COM+ Applications where a "Print2eDoc SDK COM+" application would have been created.
Double-click Print2eDoc SDK COM+, right-click Components and select New » Component to start the COM+ Component Install Wizard.
On the Welcome page, select Next.
On the Import or Install a Component page, select the Install new component(s) button.
On the Select files to install dialog box, specify Print2eDocSDK.dll in the <Print2eDoc SDK Installation Path>\Bin\ folder, and click Open.
On the next page, select Next to go ahead with the installation Print2eDocSDK.dll component for your COM+ application.
On the last page select Finish.

*- Creating a COM+ application is not necessary if you are running the printer component in a compiled .exe application.
